An opportunity

The Victoria magazine has been kind enough to feature me in their latest issue (January 2013)! They have included some photos of my projects.

Since then I have had a few people contacting me about buying finished embroideries. I don't sell my work, but customers are welcome to sell finished works (up to 10 for each pattern).

So if you are interested I would like to offer a page on my site with links to people who sell finished works made from my designs.

It seems that it was this piece in particular that has caught some attention:
I did this project in January 2010 as part of an online embroidery exhibition. The theme was winter, of course.

Christmas Kitty Embroidery Pattern

I added this design to the store a few days ago.
I have also stitched my version of it with the suggested colors. Although I did take some liberty with the stack of presents!! I used bits of wool felt instead of embroidering them. I used the colors I have on hand.
I'm working to try to actually finish my embroideries into something, so this one become a little wall hanging. It could be an ornament too!

You can find the Christmas Kitty Embroidery Pattern in the store.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Pattern

(Cross post from my needlework blog)
This past week's hurricane hit close to home. My little sister lives in New York City. She is lucky enough to live on higher ground, but her former neighborhood of Long Beach has literally been flattened. She is quite upset by the situation.

People have lost homes, businesses, loved ones, just everything. Gone. So she has set up a volunteer effort to buy supplies and necessaries for the folks in her old neighborhood. The FEMA and red cross food is apparently just really not at all nice.

I have decided to do what I can from far away, even if it is small in comparison to what needs doing. I created a special pattern for the victims. All proceeds will go to her volunteer fund. All of the money she raises is going straight to victim aid. There is no administration, offices, staff or overhead to be paid.

I'm going to try to get her to send me a few pics of the neighborhood and her progress helping. She is going out to volunteer over there for the whole weekend.

If you can at all help, please purchase the Sandy Cross Stitch design in my store.

I'll be working on an embroidery version. But the people can't wait, so if you are interested, please purchase the cross stitch for now, and send me a message that you prefer the embroidery version. I will see that you get it.

Mississippi Cross Stitch

Mississippi is the latest state to be added to the US state cross stitch series.
The house featured in this design is called Cedarhurst and was built in 1857 in Holly Springs. The house was home to Sherwood Bonner, who moved to Boston to become an author but later returned to Holly Springs.

You can find the Mississippi cross stitch pattern in the store!

More State Cross Stitch Patterns

I've added two more states this past week!  Massachusetts and Michigan.
The Massachusetts cross stitch pattern features the Crowninshield-Bentley House in Salem, MA built in 1727 by a fish merchant and sea captain. You can find the Massachusetts cross stitch pattern in the store.

The Michigan cross stitch pattern features the Sand Point light house built 1867-67. The lantern is made of cast iron from the UP! The house faces land instead of out to the lake as one might expect. You can find the Michigan cross stitch pattern in the store.

And finally I have updated the California cross stitch pattern with a more appropriate house.

This one is the John Marsh (an early pioneer to CA) house built in the mid 1800s.  He is credited with being California's first doctor although he had no medical education!  You can find the California cross stitch pattern in the store.

Order without logging in!

Many people these days prefer not to use a Google account, so with this in mind, it is now possible to order without logging in.  However, this means that no record of your orders will be available to you on the site, and that your patterns will be emailed to you instead. Unless you say otherwise, your patterns will be sent to your paypal mail address. If you prefer another account, please be sure to make a note or send an email. Be sure to keep your paypal emails since they will have the record of your orders.

Fiona Cross Stitch Pattern

Hi and thanks for the tutorial feedback here and on FB and anywhere else. It is good to know they are useful. I always have more ideas, so it's just a matter of picking the good ones out for writing.

This week I have created Fiona!
Click here to find the Fiona cross stitch pattern in the store.

I created Fiona by request from a customer. She wanted a design to match the Lily, Brooke and Morgan series. It's been awhile since I made those, so I just couldn't match the style now. The house is inspired by the Captain Bailey House in Brownville, Nebraska, a historic river town.

Tutorials!

The Floss Box tutorials are now back on line! You can visit the tutorials page here.

I have to say these are back primarily thanks to one person. I had these on my old site for over two years and in that time, I didn't get even one message or thanks regarding them. I believed that no one ever looked at them, so I decided to dump them when I made my  new site. In fact, I dumped my whole idea of an online stitching magazine because it was a lot of work for practically no feedback or appreciation, which is a shame in a way because I still have the thought it would be cool, but it's way too much work to do alone if I feel like I am just filling cyber space with stuff no one really cares about.

My message here may sound a little "angry", but it isn't anger that I feel when I think  about it, it's more like disappointment (text can be so bad at conveying the deeper meaning). I am enthusiastic about embroidery, I will gladly share, but I cannot share in a void.

Anyways, one person, and only one person sent a message wondering if I would ever bring them back. So here they are available once again. Perhaps the list will increase, but I am not sure it will without something from any readers that I may have.

France Cross Stitch Pattern

I paused from the state patterns to make a design honoring France! This one was a little extra challenge for me because of the complicated building, but as always, I learn something with each design I make.
The castle in the background is base on a real building called Chateau Fillemonteix. I haven't ever been to France myself, but the pictures show a beautiful country with a truly fascinating history! This desing was fun and who can resist an old castle?

You can find the France Cross Stitch at The Floss Box, just click the name!
